GCA have worked closely with Motherwell Miners Welfare to develop plans for a new social club to replace their existing building which has become difficult to maintain in its current form. GCA gained planning permission to develop part of the existing site for residential use which will help fund the new premises which has been designed to provide all the facilities required to ensure the long term sustainability of the club offering a large flexible hall whch will cater for social events as well as being available for conference or banqueting occasions.
The building is designed with 2 distinct seperate parts, with the function hall able to be used in isolation from the rest of the club and this is reflected in the scale and materials used on the elevations.
A ramp leads to the main entrance helping deal with the levels but also defining the approach to the building at the point where the two parts of the building meet. A sheltered terrace is provided opening from the main lounge offering views over the bowling green and overspill space from the lounge.
